ABOUT SEA SHEPHERD
We are an international, non-profit marine conservation organization that engages in direct action campaigns to defend wildlife, and conserve and protect the world’s oceans from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction
Victory Of The Whale
In collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment, the Coast Guard, the Catania Harbour Office and the Milazzo branch of the Guardia di Finanza, Operation Siso aims to protect the delicate ecosystem of the Aeolian Islands archipelago from undocumented and undeclared illegal fishing; in particular, from the use of "Spadare" nets, known for killing sperm whales, turtles, tuna, swordfish, sharks and marine mammals until they were banned in 2002, and from the indiscriminate use of FADs.

This bespoke writing instrument tells the story of the American whaler Essex, sunk in 1820. Her epic encounter with an enormous sperm whale inspired Herman Melville’s novel Moby-Dick and lives on in the tradition of Sea Shepherd. The international marine life conservation movement has contributed bronze salvaged from the propeller of its former flagship Steve Irwin to a design with both nostalgic value and revolutionary stature. Together for the Ocean!
